![]() The combat isn't the main focus of the games anyway, the dialogues and ability to choose to some degree are. I can't play the game mainly because the combat is so horrible. The first one is not so dumbed down all things considered. Dragon Age 2 is a different story, it was very dumbed down. RPG players tend to be the worst judges of what makes a videogame, as seen by their tastes and the growth of MMO's (games that basically take baldurs gate combat system to the max with menu driven passive autocombat based combat). I suggest you learn what gameplay is before commenting. ![]() Just being able to move your guy and watch him swing a sword, is not interactiivty - what kinds of interesting things can you do to objects and player models, what kind of actions and behaviors can you perform on them. ![]() You obvously don't understand the meaning of INTERACTIVE. To say Dragon age is a good example is to be clueless about gameplay. I'd consider Skyrim despite its simple combat the first real emergence of interactive combat in a long time in RPG's, I believe it was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic that finally unchained RPG's from the cruft of the past since the early 3D ultima's.Ĭan you throw enemies and grab them in Dragon age, any game? Can you target specific sections of the body and cut them off? etc? the combat is wack a mole hitbox crap we've had for years. You should be able to literally fight action oriented style because RPG's had been coasting behind turn based and auto-combat for so long hiding the fact they were barely videogames because of their D&D origins and D&D creators behind them. Not passively AI controlled with autocombat enabled. Uhh dragon age is a GOOD example, RPG's should have more action oriented combat by now. Supp99: You've boughten the tricks game developers have done to hide lack of gameplay, in dragon age two they sped up the combat and made the attack animations have impact so you are given the illusion of 'playing the game' (hit a button see something awesome happen) but there is no real deep interactivity involved. ![]()
